Privacy Policy
Synome Inc. (we, us, or our) handles information in the Talk Translator iPhone and Android apps, QR caption pages, and related services as described below.
1. Information we collect and why
- Translation and captions: we use audio, recognized text, translations, selected languages, participation, and usage duration received during online processing to provide translation and QR sharing.
- Usage management and security: we use automatically generated user and device identifiers, device authentication, welcome-offer status, IP addresses, and access and error records. No account registration or sign-in is required.
- Purchases: product and transaction identifiers and purchase, renewal, and refund information support balance management, refunds, and accounting. We do not collect card numbers or similar payment details.
- Quality improvements: usage, diagnostic information, and purchase-screen interactions help us investigate problems and improve usability. Purchase interactions are linked to a user identifier but contain no audio or conversation text.
- Web display: a browser-generated participant identifier, invitation credentials, language preferences, and cookies maintain connections, reconnections, and display settings.
- Support: we use your email address, message, optional image, app and OS versions, device model, display language, and receipt number to respond. We also link a user identifier when authenticated.
2. Audio, captions, and online translation
On-device speech recognition and translation run on the iPhone without sending audio or conversation text externally for that processing. Model downloads, purchase verification, and support requests use a connection separately. Translation on Android uses online processing and requires an internet connection.
Online translation sends audio and text through our servers to external AI. Section 3 lists the recipients and the information sent.
We explain recipients and purposes and obtain affirmative consent before use. You can withdraw consent under Settings > Privacy > About Online Translation, ending online processing and QR sharing. On iPhone, on-device processing remains available for supported languages without this consent. Translation on Android cannot start without this consent. Information already sent remains subject to providers' retention policies.
With QR sharing enabled, participants can read original captions and translations in their chosen language. Explain online processing and sharing to speakers and obtain any required consent before use.
3. External services
We use external cloud, email, notification, and other services to provide app features and support, sharing the information needed for each purpose. Processing or storage may occur outside Japan. We select and oversee providers offering protection equal to or greater than this policy and applicable law.
We use Soniox for speech recognition and two-way translation, sending audio and selected languages.
For one-way translation, OpenAI receives the target text, target language, and processing identifiers, but not microphone audio or prior conversation history. For support reply drafts, OpenAI receives email text that may include reply details and diagnostics, but not attached images.
External cloud, email, and notification services process and store connection information, captions, usage information, and support submissions to provide and secure the service and respond to inquiries.
Apple handles information needed for device authentication, welcome-offer eligibility, and payments. Apple's on-device speech recognition and translation do not send audio or conversation text externally for that processing.
On Android, Google Play verifies the app, device, and purchases. To prevent repeated welcome-time claims, the app sends a purpose-specific hash of its app/user-scoped Android ID, and we retain a further-hashed redemption receipt. The original Android ID is never transmitted or stored.
RevenueCat manages purchases using user identifiers and purchase, renewal, restoration, and refund information.
Soniox does not store audio or transcripts or use them for AI training, but may retain operational metadata without conversation content. We disable OpenAI response storage, but abuse monitoring may retain content for up to 30 days and temporary processing caches for up to 24 hours. API content is not normally used for training; retention may be extended for legal or safety reasons.
4. Retention and deletion
We do not save audio recordings. Our server normally deletes captions and translations within about three minutes of creation. Final captions awaiting retry have a deadline of about three minutes from temporary receipt. Captions already on a device and providers' retention are separate.
Associations between device authentication information and users remain until usage-data deletion. Authentication expires after 30 days; unlinked device authentication information is retained for 180 days after last use.
AI usage is generally retained for 90 days and purchase interactions for 180 days. Purchase interactions are also removed upon usage-data deletion. Other diagnostic and security records are kept as needed for investigation and misuse prevention.
Transaction information, usage-time ledgers, deleted user identifiers, and deletion-completion records are kept for refunds, accounting, and misuse prevention. These and session-ending metadata without conversation text have no uniform automatic deletion deadline.
For the welcome offer, Apple's redeemed state remains after usage-data deletion. We delete account-level grant records 90 days after usage-data deletion. Android device-hash receipts remain to prevent repeated claims after reinstalling or deleting usage data and have no fixed automatic deletion deadline.
Support records are kept as needed for support and dispute resolution and deleted when their purpose ends. There is no uniform automatic deletion deadline, and these records are managed separately from usage-data deletion.
Captions are retained for on-screen display; ordinary conversation history is not saved automatically. You manage copies or screenshots you choose to keep.
Settings > Privacy > Delete Usage Data removes or revokes device associations and authentication, server-side conversation text and participation information, purchase interactions, and unused online-translation time. We also request deletion at RevenueCat, which may take additional time. Cancel subscriptions separately through Apple or Google Play, depending on where you purchased them.
On Android, this action also deletes local support drafts, attached images, and retry information. Local support drafts on iPhone and previously submitted support history are excluded. To request deletion of support history, provide your receipt number or reply email address. We may retain the minimum necessary information for legal requirements or dispute resolution.
5. Support requests and images
We use information provided in support requests to answer questions and investigate problems. We may use external email and notification services and AI services to draft replies.
Our team reviews reply drafts before sending. See Section 3 for external services and Section 4 for retention and deletion.
6. Protection and sharing
We protect information through encrypted connections, device authentication, and access controls. We do not use conversation content for AI models of our own or advertising, sell user information, or track users for advertising.
We do not disclose information to third parties except as required by law, with consent, or through the services and sharing described here. Cookies and browser storage support connections and display preferences, not storage of conversation text.
Before online processing or sharing speech from children or others unable to provide valid consent, explain it to a parent or authorized representative and obtain any consent required by applicable law.
7. Your rights and contact
Please contact us if you would like to review, correct, or delete your information. We may verify that the request comes from you before responding.
8. Policy changes
We update this policy as features, laws, or recipients change. Significant changes are announced here or in the app, and we obtain renewed consent when required.
September 29, 2026: We reduced repetitive explanations and clarified how support information is handled. We also reduced the information included in notifications to our team. No new data collection or purposes of use have been added.
October 14, 2026: We clarified online processing on Android, purchase management through Google Play, and deletion of local support drafts on Android.
